Squash is a sport that has travelled around the whole planet, but was created in England in the early 19th century. Students discovered that the game, played on a smaller court with a slower and less dangerous rubber ball, which "squashed" on impact against a wall surface, produced a sports history wide array of shots, required quick footwork, and was very interesting to play. The first four squash courts were not installed at the school until about 1864, when squash was unofficially established as a sport. The game was brought to North America in the 1880s.
